Shields

Gameplay Description:

Shields provide additional protection to the player. In compensation, they do not allow the use of a second one-handed weapon and slightly slow down the character's movement. This is the most efficient way to be covered from thrown weapons.

Shield can be combined with one-handed swords and axes, and flails.

The game offers more than twenty different shield models.

Axes

Historical Description:

Francs used a short axe in heavy iron, called Francisque. It could be thrown to 3 or 4 metres of distance. In the Carolingian period, the axe called "Dane" is used in the fight. It is rather long (approximately 1m50) and held two hands. It will be used until XIIth century (The English people possessed it in the battle of Hastings in 1066).

The French chivalry adopted the axe towards the end of the XIIth century following the first crusades. In the XIIIth century, the foot soldiers also carried more or less long axes.

Gameplay Description:

Unlike swords, war axes are very efficient when it comes to destroy enemy's armor. Since they don't have as many combat moves as swords, they are less effective for killing.

According to his skills, a character may use axes in several ways:

  • Single one-handed axe,
  • Two one-handed axes, one in each hand,
  • Single two handed axes,
  • Or one-handed axe and a shield simultaneously.

The game offers more than twenty one-handed axe models, and as much two-handed axe models.

Flails

Historical description :

Compound weapon of one sleeve of wood provided with a metal chain on which is hung on an iron mass. The flail was especially employed on Germany and on Switzerland from the XIIth century but much less on France.

This weapon was terribly destructive for coats of mail but could also damage the one who handled it. The flails of the foot soldiers had one sleeve longer to be able to affect the riders.

The mass suspended from the chain was generally spherical and provided with more or less long points, but it could be as well no as an ingot of rectangular iron.

Swords

Historical description :

It is the best weapon of the knight and the man of weapon of the Middle Ages.
The use of the long sword seems to begin in the period Franque and more specially Carolingian. From this period, the sword became the noblest weapon and carried even often a name (the most famous are Durandal, Roland's sword) and its knob sometimes contained relics.

Gameplay :

Swords are more efficient for killing than for destroying enemy's armor. When striking an armor, swords are damaged faster than other weapons. Rather easy to use, theyr let the player attack quickly.

According to his skills, the character may use swords in various ways:

  • - Single one-handed sword
  • - Two one-handed swords - one in each hand.
  • - Or one-handed sword and a shield simultaneously.

The game offers more than twenty one handed sword models.
